Raising the roof on this house included increasing the pitch of the roof to expand the living space in this family home.
Many of the original slates on the house roof were in good condition, and so removed, graded and stored for later re-use. Hardrow® Duet slates were selected to match the existing reclaimed slates, and were laid on the Front Elevation to maintain a consistent look across the roof. Hardrow® slates are a cost-effective concrete alternative to stone tiles, are an equally hard-wearing option and are available in a range of finishes and colours. Matching Hardrow Concrete ridge tiles were chosen to complement both the existing and new roofing materials. The slates were laid on a high quality breathable membrane instead of traditional felt. This tough, hard-wearing man-made material is an energy-efficient green alternative to traditional roofing felt, and reduces condensation and the amount of ventilation required in the roof space. The roof was raised several feet and the pitch of the roof was significantly increased to accommodate a third floor within the roof space, offering a considerable increase in living accommodation. Three single Dormer windows were added to the front elevation and a large three window Dormer to the rear. These further extend the roof space, provide essential natural light and bring larger dimensions to the rooms within the space. |
